System Requirement

macOS 14.0 or later.

Current Version

Cofus 1.1.0.

Local-First Books

Books are saved as .cofus packages in locations selected by the user.

No Account Required

Users can write, organize, and export without creating an account.

Quick Start

  1. Launch Cofus. Portfolio appears in the center of the workspace.
  2. Choose New Book, or use Open to select an existing .cofus package.
  3. Set a book title, writer profile, genre, and page size when needed.
  4. Choose Save to select the first location for a new book. Saved books then autosave while the user works.
  5. Return to Portfolio to organize books as Current, Finished, Published, or Trash.
  6. Use Export to create a PDF or RTF copy.

Common Questions

Why does Cofus open to Portfolio?

Portfolio is the normal starting screen. Cofus waits for the user to create or choose a book before loading the writing page.

Where are my books stored?

The user chooses each book’s location when saving. Cofus does not upload books to a developer-operated server.

Does Trash Bin delete my book?

No. Trash Bin is a recoverable Portfolio state. The book remains safe, can be opened, and can be dragged back to another section.

Can Cofus open an older .writingbook file?

Yes. Cofus asks before conversion and creates a new .cofus copy. The original legacy file remains unchanged.

Why does Save ask for a location?

A new book needs a user-selected package location for its first save. Later edits autosave to that location.
